Coaching & Development
Coaching is guiding someone to improve their performance or behavior by giving clear feedback, explaining why it matters, and supporting them with steps to do better.
Key Coaching Principles for Leads
1
Stay Respectful
Address the behavior, not the person's character.
2
Be Clear and Specific
Point out exactly what happened and what needs to change.
3
Listen First
Give the employee a chance to share their side.
4
Focus on Solutions
End with clear steps they can take to improve.
5
Follow Up
Check in later to see if progress is being made.

Being a Leader
Leadership is guiding and supporting a team toward shared goals by setting the example, communicating clearly, building trust, and working alongside them with respect.
Tips on Leading
1
Clear Communication
Give straightforward instructions. Break down the plan so everyone knows what's expected. Be approachable.
2
Lead by Example
Demonstrate tasks and work alongside your team. Stay professional under pressure — your behavior sets the tone.
3
Organization & Time Management
Prioritize tasks, pace the work, and anticipate roadblocks (missing product, layout changes). Adjust quickly.
4
Motivation & Team Support
Encourage effort, recognize quality work, and keep morale high. Step in to train and coach if someone struggles.
5
Accountability & Quality Control
Double-check work for accuracy and planogram compliance. Address mistakes quickly and respectfully.
🧘 De-escalating Situations

On the rare occasion a client or associate gets upset, use these steps:

  • Stay Calm & Listen — Let the client speak first. Acknowledge their concern before responding.
  • Agree & Redirect — Remember: the client is always right. Support the employee by shifting focus to solutions.
  • Loop in SASR — If the issue continues, involve SASR leadership right away: Employeerelations@sasrlink.com
